Rear Suspension

Ronald Reid has been working on the rear suspension and has designed it to be a trailing arm suspension with two rearward camber control links. The Arm and links will be made of 4130 steel alloy tubing and the Wheel Carrier will be made of 6061-T6 aluminum alloy.

Design Updates

In an attempt to widen the space between the camber links, the rear wheel carrier was redesigned. As seen here, he carrier is now made of two pieces, held together by two 3/8ths bolts and a large key way, machined into both components.

Finite Element Analysis

ANSYS and Solidworks analysis were used to evaluate the factor of safeties of the critical components of the rear suspension with loading conditions simulating a 4 foot drop with the entire weight o the car landing on the rear suspension. The results are shown in the following slides.
